Jameson Barton was a rich man, until inviting the devil into his home. This is his farewell letter as he tells how he arrived to the cursed town of Lakewood, Utah after inheriting the devil's treasure.

Nestled on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, just west of the American Fork Canyon in Utah, is the town of Lakewood. Founded soon after the Mormon pioneers came to Utah by other religious settlers, known as the Mawtabish. Their beliefs were suspected to be evil, and soon faded from history. The dark religion still continued in whispers and dark corners of society. One honorary member, Jameson Barton, helped fund the founding of the city that has continued to this day.
No one knew where his fortune came from, as he changed his story often. Even his adopted daughter, Maggie, constantly asked. The only thing people knew for certain is he inherited it. That fact never changed. The founder of the Mawtabish, Hyrum Ashfield, became so obsessed to stalk him, before disappearing. He claimed there was a map to Barton's treasure hidden beneath the floorboards of his child's bedroom.
Another mystery, as he vanished with no heir. That didn't stop several from searching. So many searched, and died trying. The American Fork Canyon, where the treasure was believed to be hidden, was believed to be haunted by all those who searched for it. Even a man by the name of Mr. Feral who claimed to know where the treasure was never came back with it. He would lead search parties into the mountains, and few, if any would return. Only he would months, if not years later.
The Mawtabish religion continued. Sacrifices within the canyon were performed in the Dark God's honor. Shrines peaked up in the strangest of places. And the town of Lakewood became known as the home of the peculiar. Things would go missing, only to reappear somewhere else days later. Shadows seemed to move on their own. The constant wind and cold gave the town chills. The strangest still was the looming fog constantly on the town's edge. As if God himself tried fading the town from existence. Lakewood still stands to this day. And these are its stories.
